Description
Das ist Herbert (85 Jahre, Witwer). Dieses wunderbare Model lernten wir an einem Sonntagmorgen auf dem Alexanderplatz kennen. Er hat sich die Zeitung und Brötchen gekauft. Zuerst schaute er skeptisch. "Warum ich? Ich bin alt und wacklig." ...war seine Reaktion. So kamen wir ins Gespräch und er war sichtlich erfreut, dass jemand IHN fotografiert. Es war kalt und er lud uns auf einen Kaffee ein. Er ist ein richtiger Berliner und erzählte uns aus seinem Leben. Von seiner Arbeit früher (er war ein kleines Schlitzohr), seiner Frau und Familie. Das waren lustige und weniger lustige Geschichten. Er war so froh, dass sich jemand für ihn interessierte. Nach 3 Kaffee haben wir uns bedankt für diesen schönen Morgen. Es war eine spontane Begebenheit, die allen Freude bereitet hat.
(Übrigens haben wir das Breakfast mit ihm bezahlt. Nicht, dass jemand denkt, wir nutzen Herbert aus.) Er ist eine wunderbare Bereicherung an diesem Tag für uns gewesen. So charmant und unterhaltsam. Jetzt, wo ich sein Bild sehe, denke ich gern an ihn zurück.

That's Herbert (85 years, widower). This wonderful model we learned on a Sunday morning at Alexanderplatz know. He bought the newspaper and rolls.
First he looked skeptical. "Why I? I am old and shaky." ... his reaction was. So we started talking and he was clearly delighted that someone photographed HIM. It was cold and he invited us in for coffee. He is a real Berliner and told us about his life. Of his work earlier (he was a little rascal), his wife and family. They were funny and less funny stories. He was so happy that someone was interested in him. After 3 coffee we have thanked us for a wonderful morning. It was a spontaneous occurrence, which has prepared all joy.
(Incidentally, we have paid for the breakfast with him. Not that anyone thinks we exploit Herbert.) He is a wonderful enrichment for us on that day been. So charming and entertaining. Now, when I see his picture, I think back fondly on him.

Ein super Portrait. Alte Menschen haben doch die interessantesten Gesichter. Die Geschichte dazu gefällt mir auch sehr gut! :)

What a great shot and such a touchinly beautiful story. I wish we had opportunity for such encounters where I live but here people are wrapped into themselves and friendly street life barely exists.

That was such a nice gesture of you (and your hubby) to do for an elderly human being, just like us, except for a few more wrinkles - but they are happy ones ... I would like to think, that someone would do that for me, when I am old - hang on for a second - I am old already ;) it just goes to show that not everybody shows their caring nature, the way you do! An old man who has seen it all and survived. His wife is gone. His children, if he has any, are gone. Perhaps he spends his days alone, forgotten. But what stories he must have. Such character in this excellent portrait. And such kindness you have shown him, Julchen. You have probably made his year. Ein alter Mann, der alles gesehen hat und überlebt. Seine Frau ist weg. Seine Kinder, wenn er welche hat, sind weg. Vielleicht verbringt er seine Tage allein, vergessen. Aber was Geschichten, die er muss haben. Solche Charakter in diesem ausgezeichneten Porträt. Und so Freundlichkeit, die Sie haben ihm gezeigt, Julchen. Sie haben wahrscheinlich machte sein Jahr.
