Carnivals are different on Africa, specially when you have so mixed origins and cultures, as Swilly has. A note about her and her name, before to tell you more of her story... As I recently knew, her name could sound strange in different countries and even has meanings that are not related at all with her or her personality. That is something that happens everywhere... But her name comes from a contraction of "Swahili" that as you know is her father's heritage and belonging. As her mother is called Lillian, the word has some kind of extra and interesting meanings for them :) So well, there was a day on the infinite prairies when the people of the sabana's little town decided to have a Mardi Gras celebration. Some people called it Carnival, others the Fair, etc... As you see, the Swily story is an universalist song, a tale where everyone is different but sharing the same place in the world. Lillian made fantasy clothings for her and the teen Swilly: she was some kind of Galadriel in the perfect summer and Swilly was a gypsy. There were not any owls there so they had the party surrounded by ostrichs and parrots... was a nice celebration, she says. That is how we have this picture of her dressed as a gypsy. She told me that she is feeling a bit of nostalgie lately. I think is because Xmas is close and she surely misses the prairies and the Africa's skies.
