Description

While visiting Kelowna BC I had gone for a walk in a lovely downtown area that boarders on a large lake. In several spots along the waterfront was these tall poles about 40 or 50 feet in the air. Each of them had a large nest built on top of them. This one there was a nesting pair sitting there. The female is in the nest, you can just see the top of her head, while the male is sitting on the perch on look out. It was impressive to see these birds thriving in a city environment and I would applaud the people that designed the park to include these high perchs so they are able to nest safely without worry about cats or anything else attacking thier offspring (except other birds). This picture is not as clear as I would like, but I didn't have my Canon with me on that walk, it was a little TZ1 which is a great camera (and we still use it), but the zoom is not as crisp as the Canon with a telescopic lens attached. Jim

That is a GREAT idea! I need to suggest that to my city's powers-that-be as a hawk has recently been seen on a roof in our downtown area. The hawk is my totem animal and I would love it if I could see one downtown. Thank you for posting this!!

How wonderful to see this! I still use my TZ1 such a lot, even though I have the TZ3 and the TZ18, because it has that ancient attribute..a LENS CAP! which means I can pop it in my pocket without worrying. you did well to get this image!

Great shot man. I've been to Kelowna on Lake Okanagan several times back in the mid to late 80s, beautiful place. Did you do any Ogopogo hunting, that'd be something to get a Picture of, Okanagan Lake is Canada's Loc Ness, there's a Seaserpent in them there Waters. Peace
