Well...it was a rather quiet changing of the guard, if I do say so myself, but that's often how things happen, unless it's a coup, or has tanks involved. Thankfully, that didn't happen. Oh, and I love prophetic escape clauses too...since the initial prophecy was that things would change and it would be a new day, the Mayans were right, technically. It is a new day and will continue to be a new day until it's an old day and midnight rolls around again. Ah...self-fulfilling prophecies. Kinda like the whole "wars and rumors of wars" thing that takes advantage of human tendencies. When hasn't there been a war? And when haven't we heard rumors about them? Ah...Humans! I love this shot. The colors are brilliant, as are the wonderful shapes. This is actually an Aztec calendar, which just means it has some slightly more busy doodads in it, but I suspect that they had a little something to do with the initial Mayan prophecy, since they--like everybody else--sought to outdo and subdue the other guy. This is quite brilliant and a great way for me to start off my day (What an odd feeling seeing this on an "important" day, while listening to the soundtrack to the movie Thor. I guess it's shaking up to be an epic day. This is great.

We have a Mayan calendar hanging in our bedroom. I wondered this morning about the brilliant people who created it - worked so long and tirelessly to create it. What did they see? Was it meant to end or was there a new starting point within their wheel? Perhaps we are still not smart enough to know what they knew and simply got the interpretation all wrong.
