Description

Contrary to what some of you have thought, at least some of these still need to work. Although milling ceased after the death of the last miller in 1981, the river, cuts and ponds are very actively managed by the rivers authority. Dr. Fisher's garden would flood easily without intervention when it pours down, as it does today. There is a brief article Here (accompanied by some truly hideous HDR pics)

This is a cool capture and thanks for the link (you're right, those photos were not of the 'highest' HDR)

Shades of Edgar Allen Poe in this foreboding shot, Andrea, right out of the catacombs of a torture chamber. And is that moss I see intermingled with the rust? Antediluvian!

That's the word I couldn't remember, ratchet. Quite the mechanic, aren't I? Wonderful details on this closeup. Very interesting website. There is a lot to see in Dorset. I really must get over there.

I do love that green business! We have it here in abundance. Something between mold and moss and ... well ... I don't know what all. Nice, thick moss is the best, but this comes in a close second in my mind. A most excellent shot!

I really do like this image - it's so fascinating just to look at, not really needing to know how it works! ... those hues of green and brown, simply mesmerising shapes and textures, BB

Ooh, a moss machine, but this would be more like lichen; it's hard to tell when it's this green, but if this is in any way similar to what colonizes the trees (and riverside rocks) in Chicago, I think it's...um...well...that evolutionary step between lichen and moss...that prolific species of...um...mossilichen. No matter what, it's quite lovely and all of those gear and ratchet teeth add such exciting geometries to this shot.
