What a day yesterday, Meadow was up & down with her health, Anita couldn't quite understand why she wasn't picking up quicker than she was.
Well now we have found out, Meadow really has tetanus. The good news is she was given the toxin last Sunday before she went to the AHT & the medication she has been given upto now to treat the infection in her mouth is what they would have used to treat tetanus. It entered through her mouth.
They had the breakthrough last night when Meadows ears stood up on her head. (may sound peculiar but this happens) So they can now get on the right track. The toxin takes 2 weeks to start getting the nerves in her head back to normal. They are feeding her through a tube down her nose, if this would have stressed her out they wouldn't have done it but so far so good. Anita said all being well she will get better, not out of the woods yet. Only thing they have to watch out for is pneumonia. As Meadow sits up when they feed her & give her a drink this shouldn't happen. They have moved her to a quieter part of the ward. She has a wonderful team looking after her 24/7. They are so on the ball. Mind you that is what we are paying for. Anita ringing again tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that she has tetanus but glad to hear that they had started the treatment for it prior to her going into hospital.. Many thoughts and wishes going out to her for a speed recovery..

Barbara, thank you so much for this update. I was thrilled to learn they finally have nailed down what has been hurting her, and are at last on the right track to treating it. I'll keep Meadow in my prayers, that God will continue to guide the Doctors as they tend to her.

Oh Barbara thank goodness they finally came up with the a diagnosis, now it is baby steps but she is heading in the right direction to the road to recovery. I hate to hear that Meadow does have tetanus. But your vet was right! That shows how good he is! I hope now that they know what they are treating her for, she will improve rapidly! I will be praying for her!

Oh, she's really going through it isn't she? I truly understand how worried you are but as you say, she's in good hands :) Have you any idea how she picked tetanus up???

Oh Barb, I'm so glad that finally they have a definitive diagnosis, now they have a clear path to follow, and Meadow will be on her way. It's nothing short of a miracle that what they have been doing for her is the same as they would have done if they'd known what she had for sure right from the start. I love how mickyrony put it, that he's sending a box of love and and smiles to look at when you need encouragement and need to have your spirits bolstered, so I'm going to send you a box of love and smiles too!

Oh Barbara, what a roller coaster ride you have been on. I'm glad they have a clear diagnosis and that the treatment she's receiving is the one she should be getting. It is a blessing that you have such a wonderful caring staff and an up to date hospital for dear Meadow. My thoughts and prayers continue for you and Meadow. big hugs for you both.

I am sorry to hear that it is tetanus after all, but I know that she has exceptional care and is a strong girl. All my best to you, Barbara, and of course to Meadow too.
