'Thank you boys! You have been most helpful!' said the Professor, just as one of the younger faculty with girlfriend in tow came up to shake his hand. Another older faculty professor and his wife arrived right behind them. Being an old hand at these parties, he was wearing a suit and tie, as he knew the Professor preferred all the faculty attending his parties dress up somewhat. It looked like this was going to be a most memorable Christmas! All the 'official' guests arrived and several extras, (some of the younger faculty brought dates), but the Professor had taken that into account by setting up an overflow table. His partys were always 'A list' functions with people trying their best to be invited. With everyone seated, there was a steady buzz of conversations around the tables. After good natured introductions and toasts to everyone in attendance, a sumptuous banquet was served. The food was exquisite with an incredible choice of selections. The Professor was very well off, having inherited old money, and could afford to put on a good table. He had even hired an internationally famous chef to prepare and cater this feast. After the dinner plates were cleared, a most divine desert was served. Flaming cherries jubilee! Not a few of the guest were excited about the prospects of being set on fire, but all went well and there were no casualties, much to everyone's relief. Once the tables were cleared, the Professor stood at the head of the main table and asked for everyone's attention. He greeted all his guests most cordially and proceeded to heap praise on his best students and fellow faculty. He had antique scrolls created listing each recipients significant accomplishments. Everyone at the main table received one. After all the praise and patronage, he got to the gifts, which, for some, was the main reason for attending this celebration. It was well known that the Professor spared no expense when it came to handing out tokens of his appreciation. Everyone received two unique and valuable gifts, chosen by the Professor himself. He presented each pair of gifts personally. He had impeccable taste and knew his recipients very well. No one went home disappointed. The party went on for several more hours. Conversations ranged all over the place with some of the faculty discussing new directions the University was considering taking to improve scholastic achievement. All the students perked up their ears at these topics and were on the edges of their chairs listening, with some of them adding their opinions and ideas. The time flew by and all too soon, the party was over. The Professor waited at the door to wish everyone farewell as they departed. The two students who had helped him set up the party stayed and helped clean up after everyone else was gone. The Professor's maids and butler appreciated the help most gratefully. 'Ah yes!' said the Professor as he pitched in to help with the cleanup. 'Another year and another successful party, I believe! Oh how I love this time of year!' Thank you for taking a peek!
