Description

Sedona, Arizona Here's the really short version: This area was once covered in shallow seas, and layers of sediment drifted to the bottom and eventually turned to rock. The land rose, the seas went away, and since then erosion has carved these interesting forms. There you go. If you want more information, check the Wiki on the Colorado Plateau. Tomorrow I'll show you a better picture of the layers.

Beautiful capture, and great info. It's hard to imagine this as a sea. It's amazing how our world changes over time.

Life on a geologically-active planet is quite a lot of fun, but it does get jiggly every so often, what with all of that...um...geological activity. But it looks so good, especially once it dries out and takes on its best colors, like here. This is great! This is a place I need to explore. Who knows what stories you'd find there!

A master class in A level geography. If only Miss Henderson had been so succinct. All our illustrations were in mono, how much more beautiful it looks in colour!

Makes me think of a joke I saw recently: a kid taking a geology test, question "Name three types of rock". The answer: classic, punk and hard. I love the striations in these eroded hills. Sometimes it's quite easy to imagine it all being underwater. Beautiful capture!
