Description
Asteroid Mining
An Orion’s Arm future history image.
In continuation from my previous post: Deep Space Mining/Engineering Vessel (DSME) in what is intended to be brief series of posts on asteroid mining technology.
My purpose, at this point, is to wrap up a few stray threads in preparation for a set of comprehensive posts illustrating the scope of my future history. This short series is one step in that, fleshing out those details that best illustrate the nature of the space faring civilization, the System States, born out of the five hundred year long Martian terraforming program.
Three spacecraft station keep on an asteroid mining production site. All three are variants of the base DSME configuration. Two are crew vehicles; the third (just above center) is an un-crewed Ore/Cargo Carrier – shown loading ore packages from the processing plant on the asteroid’s surface.
On the asteroid’s surface, two production rigs, ore-separators, packaging plant, and a track-mounted re-mote manipulator style arm for handling ore packages. The second crew vehicle hovers over another production site (invisible below the asteroid’s horizon).
All models are my own creations constructed in Bryce 6.3 and rendered in Bryce 7 Pro.
As always thank you for your interest, thoughtful comments, and encouragement.
