Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

I see bricked up windows, hiding either the inside from seeing what is going on outside or preventing us to see what might be happening within the walls - the bricks may lie, telling you stories that they think you want to hear, rather than the stories you want to hear.... and that red line...a stopping point for the stories? Why at that point?

I've always loved the many textures and colors that bricks can form, especially when I think about where they've come from: The right kind of silted sediments from flowing water that have to be treated in just the right way to make a brick, and then you seemingly destroy that by immersion in fire. To me brinks are like the result of all of the elements of old: The air that makes the rain that flows down the rivers to sift the earth to be transformed by fire. It is almost magical when you think about it. These worn and scared bricks are especially fascinating in that light, it must have been a bit worrisome to venture into an alley like that at night, but the picture is really fascinating!

The windows (bricked over) are like the eyes of the brick creature... I'm always amazed at your fertile brain, Chip. It's very easy to see why storytellers have been revered throughout the ages.

As always, your narrative makes your photo into something extraordinary.:)

Great capture...love the accompanying narrative!

great gritty texture in deep hidden shadows... the unknown lurking between the bricks just waiting for a hand to be placed upon it.

Hummmm - this has prompted my internal DJ to play some Pink Floyd in my head.... Fascinating textures - I love old brick walls. Such a diversity of colors and textures. Great shot, Chip!

I don't think they set their sights high enough! LOL! LOVE this picture! The quality of the light, the perspective on the row aspect of the bricks, the mystery of the vanishing point (what's back there?) ... it's superb. Even with no text the mood comes through. I do hope your brick-writing folks share another tale with you.

Is that a bleeding slash I see...? Did some miscreant try to force this wall to hand over its wallet or purse? Pretty shoddy trying to push around a blind wall, wouldn't you say? Nice job of setting a tone and getting my mind to rise to the occassion:)

I wish I had just a little bit of your brain to seed some new growth in mine.

Chip this makes me think of the brickwork in Auschwitz.

I can never again look at a brickwall without thinking about what it says or what you might think it says. :)

You're right, each brick that you put to build a house or a wall, represents a further step towards the aspirations of the builder

All in all it's just another brick in the wall ~ Pink Floyd Your images often bring song lyrics to mind. Walls can create a sanctuary or a prison. Perhaps its up to us. Something is stirring. We will have to see what developes. Outstanding capture.
