Description
Not wishing to steal the thunder from Claude (Photosynthesis), who has put up his own spectacular pics of The Arches National Park, but I couldn't resist the temptation to back up his wonderful work with my own attempt.
This formation is in the Arches National Park of Utah, USA. There are over 2000 catalogued arch formations in this park which were formed by water, ice, extreme temperatures and underground salt movement plus 100 million years of erosion. Old arches are falling and new ones are forming in the ongoing process. The stone is sandstone.
American Indians used this area for thousands of years.
The spectacles formation (and the name is obvious) has a North window and a South.

Steal as much thunder as you want, Jeff - this is a spectacular landscape & deserves to be showcased. Nice shot & very similar to one I was thinking about posting. You have some nice puffy clouds in yours, whereas my sky was pretty much solid blue. And you are more of a purist than I am - I am shameless about postworking to enhance an image. Vive la difference!

Great to see you are back, Jeff! I LOVE this shot because it shows the people and therefore the scale..the first time I have realised that. Brilliant.

This is a spectacular coming back from you, my friend! It's such an impressing shot in many ways. How could you get so much amazing things in one capture, I'm asking myself!

That's too cool. This area is so amazing! Claude has inspired us to move Utah up on our list. We'll be there in no time! Any and all images of this area are appreciated. :)

What an amazing formation and a super capture of it too.

OK, so from a huge distance, if they put bonfires in each one it would look like someone was watching...that would be cool! Great capture here!
