Description

Happy Birthday Mike. Maybe a day early. This is an adult wood stork and they are on the "almost" endangered list. Yesterday we saw three at the Green Cay Wildlife Refuge. Very low on the cute meter. They are about 40 inches (102cm) tall and with an impressive wing span of 61 inches (155cm). They do have black flight feathers on the wing tips and tail. What a handsome bird! I love stoop-shouldered birds. Have you noticed that they're generally bald? I love the crisp details, especially around the head and neck area. This is a marvel of a photograph, and a great place for me to start catching up on your gallery. I've been away far too long! This is a great, up-close-and-personal shot. I happen to like the sorts of birds that aren't considered "pretty"...these guys, vultures, and hornbills are extremely handsome creatures. So elegant, and this bird here epitomizes elegance. Wonderfully done.
