Description
Suamon bolted upright, something was wrong. Katha seemed to agree, as he too was awake, his sleek furred body moving from asleep to awake and wary in a moment. What was it that woke them? Her eyes scanned through the familiar darkness, she could see nothing untoward. Tilting her head back, mouth open, she mimicked her companion and scented the air, Katha was actively pacing now, a low growl breaking the almost silence of the room. Su rose to her feet and moved to get her staff. She could smell nothing, see nothing, her ears twitching.. she heard it; The sound of feet on stone. But that wasn’t right. There was no one on the isle but her and Katha. There hadn’t been for as long as she could remember. Cautiously they crept towards the main hall, the one that lead to outside. Again the pair of them lifted their heads to scent the air, looking for the source of the unwelcome noise with their other senses. Su could feel her ears twitching, straining for that misplaced sound. She could hear the roar of the wind across snow, the distant sound of the ice crackling, beyond that- the sound of water lapping where it had broken through the ice. Su brought her awareness back to the immediate area, her empty hand fisted gently in Katha’s fur, she closed her eyes to see with her ears. She became more aware of her heartbeat, of Katha’s… and.. another. Her eyes flew open, finding herself near face to face with him, Katha straining against her handhold to growl menancingly at the stranger …
