Description
Hi there,
Well, here we are at Hendon, the RAF Museum, and a view of my all time Fave aircraft, The Lightning..
This was One of 33 Lightning F.6 aircraft, serials XS893 - XS903 and XS918-938 ordered to Contract KD/2T/0139/CB7a and built by British Aircraft Corporation at Preston..
It first flew on the 26th Jan, 1967, and went to No5 Squadron for Air Defense duties..
It only served with two squadron's the other being No11, it is shown here in No11 colours as worn on it's last last of service in the RAF..
This aircraft WAS the last Lightning to fly in the RAF, it had its last swan-song on 21 Jul 87 after a total of 4,015.30 flying hours..
It arrived at the RAF Museum in June 1988..
A mass of brooding power! I love it!
Enjoy
Rob

What a lovely beast! Always liked the Lightning. It still should be in service. Great POV.

The ultimate dragster. So, what was its 0-60 time? LOL Wish we could climb the ladder and see inside. Posting your favorite plane on your own birthday just seems right:) Very neat pic!

Fabulous POV, clarity, lighting and geometry in this outstanding indoor capture, Rob! And have a very Happy Birthday, your illness notwithstanding. Incidentally, I watched the 1963 movie, X-15, on TV the other night. The plot was kind of banal, but they had great Air Force and NASA footage of the X-15, its B-52 mother ship, and F-100s and F-104s as chase planes.

Wizzard-bang-on mate. I have to agree that the wing tanks do nothing for it but this is Britain at it's best again. Happy Birthday dude!!!!
