Description

It was the reflected splash of sunlight that drew my attention. I’d just left from work last Sunday afternoon, and I meandered for a short time, before taking a northbound train to Albany Park. As is the custom of my displaced weekends (Monday and Tuesday) I spend time with Corey: photographing things, watching DVDs, doing creative things, and often just wandering around and looking for photographic subjects. I find a lot of rusty stuff that way. I found this particular tableau bare blocks away from my workplace. At first, I was drawn to the sunlight, reflected from the windows of a building behind me and at an angle. As I framed this photo, I noticed the texture of the bricks and of the wooden telephone pole. I also noticed a strange shimmer, and an unexpected splash of blue. I stood, enraptured, for long moments, just watching to see if the reflected sunlight moved. I thought of story ideas…or the stories that might be told by grimy, somewhat-blackened bricks. I heard the approach of a still distant train, and turned quickly to catch it. This is what a saw, briefly, last Sunday. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

there is so much history in this wall, sunlight not withstanding. The splash of blue only emphasizes the new brick among the old which makes one wonder, what was there before and why the change? the other unique aspect of this image is that there is not tags on the bricks! makes one wonder - is this a sacred place that shall not be defiled with just common markings? Cool capture Chip!

The blue touch and the stories on the wall :-) What a beautiful shot you have created here. You always come up with the most eyecatching shots of thinks others never notice.

I'm with Andrea ... the sparkle on the glass blocks is like finding an easter egg! (The gaming sort, not the kind under a bush.) Fabulous!

the sunlight make the difference... the blue sky and the yellow of sun both not direct visible but they make this capture perfect, great mood in this - could be a background for a movie scene....

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes." - Marcel Proust This photo demonstrates that concept perfectly...

The textures are delightful, but the image brought a sense of sadness. One of living in a world where the only glimpses of blue or sunlight were such as this. Interesting capture.
