Hi,
My name is Dean Etheridge and welcome to my bio.
I practice as a qualified engineering design professional, using high-end 3D modelling and manufacturing software. My product designs are specified globally on a wide variety of applications, including automotive, aerospace and other diverse high-technology applications.
I possess a solid grounding in the use of traditional media techniques, and my work naturally progressed to encompass advancements in the use of digital tools. From here, it was a small step to rediscover my love of more uniquely artistic themes.
My graphic style has always been strongly associated with reproducing realism as closely as possible, and probing the envelope of how this can be achieved across different sets of software packages.
I am honoured to have had my work selected for publication in several areas. These include the DAZ/deviantART ‘12 Months of 3D’ competition; ‘ImagineFX’ magazine; Ballistic Publishings’ ‘EXOTIQUE 2’ and 'EXOTIQUE 4' and '3DArtist' magazine.
My other interests are photography and travel. For the latter, I have been privileged to have travelled to, and explored many continents around the world. My favourite second home is SE Asia, and I am greatly influenced by both it’s people and culture.
I currently live in the UK with my wife and daughter who are both very special to me, and hugely supportive in my work.

I'd say you've achieved your goal! Fantastic! :o)

Once again, Deane: a tour-de-force! The lighting in this image is spectacular. And so is the skin and the setting and all... but the girl: she brings vibrant life into the image. Akari reminds me of Louisa (Caroline Catz) from Doc Martin, more in attitude than actual resemblance. Her skin - beautifully enhanced by the VSS shader though it is - plays a secondary role to your portrayal of a girl with something on her mind. THAT makes the image pop. A lovely work... quite compelling, her look!!

A lovely picture, Deane. When you get to this level of realism the tiny "unreal" messages that the brain still picks are so subliminal that it's difficult to positively identify them in the image. One thing that does so often grab my (critical) attention in V4 portraits is the usual V4 eye misalignment, which in this image I think makes her left eye look slightly over-rotated in comparison with her right. Another favourite!

You've really succeeded in the realism department my friend. She is totally believable. Any that goes beyond the wonderful lighting and texturing, her bearing and expression seems so natural and intelligent. Thanks for the references too, I''l take a look at them when I get some time.

Terrific work. I agree with the comments above that the pose and ATTITUDE! she exudes are what makes this pop; your realism craft works in support of this.

Absolutely stunning! You hit realistic on the nose in a big way.
templargfx
very realistic looking image. I would suggest your next point of research is into eyes, its the only thing in the image that looks a little off. Still, brilliant image non-the-less

Excellent work! Great lighting and textures! Wonderful image!

This is amazingly realistic, which is especially impressive considering you're using VSS PR3 and not the more recent EZSkin2 (Snarlygribbly's app, Bagginsbill's material). VSS PR3 doesn't have true SSS, but this is more realistic than most works that do. I really like the pose and expression, the light is beautiful, and the focal blur looks great. Wonderful, inspiring work.
