I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

These are such magnificent animals, though I'm not too sure I'd like to meet one in the wild, I might end up as lunch!!

I'm not sure I see it. To me its more "Got anything to eat? And maybe a towel so I can dry off?" Excellent capture, great detail.

My dream is to NOT see any of these in the wild, LOL! What a lovely creature it is, though, when safely in a habitat that keeps us separate. Wonderful capture, Carin!

I get antsy enough seeing black bears in the wild; I would not want to see one of these guys! They are truly massive and unpredictable!

A magnificent beast and mean stare! If you get your dream and see one in the wild, I hope it's with a very long telephoto lens!
Katraz
The most cuddly looking dangerous teddy bear you could meet.

Such a wonderful creature! Don't wanna meet one in person, but looking at them from a distance is great! This also reminds me of a story I read, a long time ago, in Ursula K. LeGuin's novel Always Coming Home which was actually a fake anthropological study of a civilization living...well...in the future. In this "study" on the folktales of the people in question, we were told a story of Coyote who decided to wage war with humans, but she didn't do it herself. She got others to do it. One day, Bear wanted to do the same thing, and actually did, but lost. Bear asked Coyote why humans were so dangerous and why bears could never defeat humans and Coyote responded: You bears sleep too much and humans f*** too much, with all that sleeping you do, you'll never beat them." Of course, in this story, Coyote also convinced Dog to go to war with humans and Dog went to wage war, but a group of women saw Dog and picked the ticks from him and fed him and so he went over to the human's side, and to this day, Coyote is very disappointed with Dog...and Bear still sleeps a lot. I have no idea where any of that came from, but I guess it was actually just evoked by this image.

That is a wonderful looking bear - for some reason - the bears in US zoos do not look that healthy!
