Description
Eleven days before Christmas the lives of 20 young children were erased. The victims, children six and seven years old, their lives only just beginning in earnest.
This was the time in a child's life when he or she lets go of their mommies hand for the first time. The time in a young life when a child waves good bye happily stepping into their class room looking back over their shoulders smiling as their mothers look on smiling back at her child with tears in her eyes thinking, "she's not my baby anymore", or maybe wondering "what will he become"? That time in life when a child starts making their own decisions, exploring the world around them, and discovering their own individuality.
Like little crayons they begin to draw and color in their own lives and futures. Their mothers and fathers step back and watch, doing their best as parents to guide them.
One can only wonder what the finished work each of these little crayons would have been. Which one would have drawn himself a doctor, or would she have colored herself a lawyer, an engineer, police officer, firemen, or a professional soldier? Would the blue crayon have become a spiritual leader in his or her community, would the red crayon have become a politician, yellow a nurse, and green an actor? Would brown have become an astronaut traveling through the heavens, or how about pink, would she have discovered a cure for cancer? All those little crayon's that never had a chance to grow, to complete their work, their life's masterpiece what might they have become in life?
While everyone is entitled to their own moral, ethical, spiritual, and social views and opinions, I can't help but wonder.
Many of our political leaders in Washington DC along with spiritual lobbyist campaign vigorously against a woman's right to choose, birth control, or any other form of planned parenthood. The mothers of the little crayons killed that day in Connecticut chose to bring life into this world only to have it aborted by a deranged man with an assault rifle.
Yet our political and spiritual leaders feel that to ban these weapons of mass destruction would violate some inherent rights of our citizens. This is something I truly can not understand and wish someone would please explain to me.
Explain it to me like I'm a six year old.
Just some of my thoughts

I have to think of the children that were saved by the intelligence and sacrifice of one of the teachers that hid her class in various cupboards. When the murderer came to her room she said the children were gone. So he shot her instead. Another tragic loss to add to all the destroyed innocents. Yet, her sacrifice saved so many. But this is not a price that should have been paid. Evil claims another victory. Things are out of control...

Very thoughtfull artwork. I too ask someone explain to me like I'm six how this happens in this country again and again and now tiny children. I have no answers and my heart breaks when I even try to think of this. I just cannot get my head around this senseless tragedy. If it were up to me, there'd be no guns anymore in our society as we have proven to the forefathers that we are unworthy of the responibility. The constitution is outdated in our new world. Sad but true.

Beautiful picture. The simple explanation is that it's not right to punish innocent people because of what one bad person did. It's the same reason we didn't close down all the mosques after the 9/11 attacks. Millions of Muslims didn't hurt anybody, and millions of Americans who own so-called assault weapons didn't hurt anybody. What Adam Lanza did was evil, without question. But if we turn our anger on people who have done nothing wrong and make them the scapegoats, then we're no better than he was.
