Looking up from the dull conversation, I felt something trying to make me look anywhere other than where my eyes had caught the slight hint of motion. Once I'd seen it, I knew it was the sort of thing no one was meant to see. Not if they wanted to continue to believe in "normal." Not if they wanted to stay sane . . . I couldn't tear my gaze away from the strange cottage until it ran completely out of sight. Having noticed my state of utter distraction, my girlfriend asked me just what I was looking at and I realized she hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary. I caught hell for pretending that I'd just been ignoring her. It was probably for the best . . .
