Description

At the Nursing home. John came in with his wife who was his carer but had become very ill. She recently died and John remains, occasionally remembering her loss. His dementia means he can't care for himself, but he becomes lively when talking about his job as a Fire Service Commander. He really likes Buster! See a portrait of this hansome gentleman Here

Touching portait and story... of late I am so happy to be reading about peoples individual pets being considered in the whole nursing and hospice scene. Finally - more and more, the pets are getting their long over-looked valuable consideration... while it will never put your wonderful dogs out of a job, it is a better moral statement for mankind into the future...

Awww bless; this is a lovely photo Andrea. I know when I take my girls to the care home to see their Mum (my mother) she always brightens up. She cannot remember that we have 3 cats but oh how she loves the girls even though she doesn't remember their names, they have become 'this one' and 'that one'. On my way out I can be sure to see one or two other ladies and gents who love to fuss the girls, all of them have dementia and some just sit doing nothing until they see the girls and then their eyes light up and there is something to talk about again. hugs Jane xx

A very touching portrait. For the ancient Greeks tragedy was not for those who died but for those left behind. When my mother died her mother, already in a care facility, quickly forgot about her. She never knew her only daughter had died. Sometimes dementia can be a good thing.

Another one for the Poignant File. Great clarity, lighting effects and texture on exhibit. Can't say that Buster isn't getting his ample amount of photo time lately.

I like John's direct look. He seems to have just asked a penetrating question, and is watching you like a bug, waiting to see how your mind works. I know at this point that's probably just an illusion, but it gives a hint of the man as he was. A wonderful photograph!

Your portraits of the dogs and the seniors are magnificent. I hope that the walls at the nursing home are lined with your senior portraits. They need to be shared. Sometimes I think dementia can be a blessing. So much sadness is forgotten. It's the time between the knowing and the totally forgotten that is difficult. My daughter used to tell me that her Mother-In-Law would cry sometimes because she would remember that she had been married, but could not remember to who. But now that's all pretty much forgotten, so the sadness for her, is gone too.
