Description

There are twelve planets in this system. No one lives on any of them. Nothing lives here. Life—in-system—is an interloper: just passing through. Going from here to there. There to elsewhere. Far away. There is wealth in-system: heavy metals in close to the unstable virulence of the parent star, hydrogen and diamond precipitates within the oblate, ringed bodies of gas giants in the cooler reaches of the system. Life, when it comes, protects itself within the hulls of ion-spewing starships: prospector craft and vast, automatic gas-mining platforms. Life makes use of what is here, shipping bits of here elsewhere.… …over there… …far away. * This started as one thing, and became something else. It’s been a while since I’ve crafted a space-scene, a long time since I fiddled with the accidental spaceship derived from the backpack of a Jango Fett action figure. The action figure itself (without his backpack) is currently…um…well…he’s at his post beside my laptop: fiddling with the fiddly-bits of a command console made from an empty raisin box, duct tape, and a command-board, meticulously applied to a neat rectangle of unlined index card. Perhaps I’ll post an image of that later…but until then, here’s a duo of small ships, heading…well…it looks like they’re heading in that direction. Either they’re looking for something, or simply posing for a double portrait with an interesting backdrop. Who knows? Maybe their story will emerge later. * As with other images in this genre, this is a mix of photographic and purely digital images. Jango Fett’s backpack makes a rather nifty shuttle-type spacecraft. The photograph of a rusty piece of metal makes for a rather nicely detailed planet…and the Gimp itself makes a decent starfield with nebular outspill. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

Very cool work (or hot depending on how close the su is to going completely nova - there is, within a slight realm of possibilities that the Nova event will be superceded by a Super Nova event or perhaps even a Supra Nova, turning not only the planets but the entire galaxy into a Pulsar Good work

I love your space scenes! This makes me want to go watch an old Star Trek episode, or maybe BG. (That reminds me, I never finished watching all the new BG episodes!! Gotta get that back on my list.) Anyway ... VERY nicely done! It looks just like I think it should. :)

It always amazes me what you can do with very modest starting points. Now THAT's talent. Great work as always, and makes me want to watch another Battlestar Galactica.
