Description
The siren's continued their screams as I stopped for a rest in the corridor, I wasn't sure where I was, they all looked the same with the emergency lighting on. David was getting heavy, very heavy and I felt tired. It seemed we'd been running through the corridors for hours, it had only been a few minutes. The tanoy announced again to get to the evacuation point.
"Mom, are we lost?" David asked, glancing around nervously.
I smiled, trying to reassure him. "No honey, I'm just taking a rest, we'll be fine."
"Is the station going to explode?"
He was a clever boy, he'd heard me talking about the sabotage of the power conduits, I guess it's my own fault for encouraging him to learn. I swallowed and stroked his face gently. "No honey, it's just a drill."
"You mean like playing pretend?" he asked in reply.
"That's right honey, nothing to worry about."
"Oh, okay then, let's go then, we don't want anybody to beat us."
I glanced down the corridor, I hadn't seen a sector sign for several junctions, maybe I just couldn't see them in the light. "Okay honey, but you help me, if you see any signs you shout them out to me."
David nodded and gave me a cheeky salute. "Okey-dokey Mom."
I sure as hell hope it was a drill...

besides the fact that the story fits very well, there is a quality to the color and the stark shadows that I really like in this image... great job

An arresting image. I still can't make up my mind if it's the writing or the art that is more riveting, so I guess it's going to have to be a combination that makes this successful. Terrific lighting. More please. I want to know what happens next.
