Description
My friend standing next to a small formation that somewhat resembles a group of mushrooms. There are probably thousands of these types of rock formations at Bisti Badlands, all roughly the same order of magnitude in size, but uniquely shaped & arranged & you can walk freely among them & explore. We were there for a few hours & saw many of them, but I think there was much, much more that we didn't have time to see. They seemed very fragile & we were careful around them. It's probably a good thing that this is located in a somewhat remote area with no visitor facilities at all & no marked trails, as I think larger numbers of visitors would be likely to cause significant damage over time...

After yesterday's post, I had no idea what scale I would see today! I imagined everything from the tall hills being at about eye level to the smallest "mushrooms" being about chest high. This puts it all in perspective (and scale, of course!), and it's sort of a relief to see it this way! :) You tempt me to add this place to our itinerary ...

this would be a great setting for a movie

What a magical place! Yes, it is probably good that it's off the beaten path, or people would try and remove the "mushrooms" and take them home as souvenirs! Excellent shot!

Your friend gives great perspective to the formations and it looks like erosion was the master artist that created this area.
