Good-bye to the Ice around the Horse of Marken Last week we were on the island of Marken (now a day’s connected by a dike to the mainland) in the IJsselmeer (IJssellake --- Southersea yearssssss ago) the see the drifting ice creating big heaps. At the feet of the “Horse of Marken” (= light house of Marken) there is, two days after the frost / winter has left the Netherlands, still a lot of ice despite the fact that the temperature is well above freezing point (7 degrees Celsius) but due to the wind the chill factor gave a feeling of below freezing point!! The wind and higher temperature does create the condition for the creation of heaps of ice on the east part of the lighthouse. This time the ice is not yet a real a threat for the lighthouse, but so impressive to see mountains of ice at least 2 a 3 meters high. As a conclusion of this series: Photo taken a little bit at a distance, you get a good impression about the scenery around the Horse of Marken and that only in one area the mountains of ice are developing!!
