Description

I was sat in a hide with not much life around to watch. Then this young grebe came fishing in front of us. It never caught anything though. Everytime he dived I waited for it to surface with a prize to add some action to my shot. Still it has the water drops to show his activities. Those wierd eyes are hypnotic! A large file if you fancy a zoom! To think these birds where hunted almost to extinction in Victorian times. There "pelts" of dense feathers where used to make those hand warming muffs. They are very numerous now I'm pleased to say.

Superb capture my friend. I also found the birds not to be so active on my recent visit to Austin Roberts bird sanctuary. I wonder why? God Bless.

Worth a zoom for sure - great detail, including those water drops & that intense red eye. There's a lake a couple of hours from here where you can see grebes - I keep meaning to go during mating season to shoot their elaborate dance but haven't made it yet...

I agree with Claude. Very worth the zoom. and what a fantastic capture Kevin. I have seen great cresteds in my local dock, but they always seen to favour the centre of the dock, which is always sadly out of my lenses reach. I'd love a grebe shot!

I never realized their eyes were so red; it's almost hypnotic! Great capture, even if he couldn't catch anything to add to your shot.
