Description

"Because I am afraid - and he gives me courage..." We finally got to go see "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" yesterday - glad we were able to see it on the big screen... I didn't think Peter Jackson could surpass himself after the LOTR trilogy - but he certainly did. This movie was magnificent! I can't wait to see what he did with Smaug! Anyway, I grabbed Mihrelle's Eirwen - a dead ringer for Ms. Blanchett - and had to do a scene based on the movie (where Galadriel asks Gandalf why he chose Bilbo to go with the Dwarves). The background scene is a photo from last October's vacation (and yes... I do frequently shoot with an eye for possible render backgrounds!) Composited in PS CS6. I really need to do more Tolkien related works... Hope you all enjoy! Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments and support - and for all your wonderful artwork!

Well done Rod. Looks like you captured the essence of character. Seems to me like that vacation shot might be worth a post on its own accord - I see some lovely golden hour twilight and fine focusing.

This is superb Rod! Great lighting and render. Mihrelle did an exceptional job with this lady. You really nailed it with the light inside and out and how it illuminates the floor right by the doorway. Excellent work and fitting BG image. I thought the Hobbit was great so far, even the extra 'stuff' they threw in. You can't imagine how much I want to see Smaug. I'm afraid he'll be so big in my head, I'll be disapointed. Well, Jackson hasn't really disapointed me yet. I just wish Tom Bombadil had gotten in to LOTR some how. Ah well.

Your background picture steals the show, my friend. What a gorgeous photograph! I might be biased, given how I spend all my time ... :P This scene is wonderfully done, and it stands on its own, regardless of the movie theme. I'm not following these movies, and I still like this piece! Outstanding work!

Great work, Rod! Mirhelle's Eirwen really have a great resamblance with Galadriel played by Cate Blanchett. And yes, it is a great continuation - I longed already for the next part og the triology when I left the cinema in December...and - you just gave me an idea!.. ;o)

Haven't seen the movie...I am the only movie-goer in this household, but now you've stirred up my interest. Your background has an Oregon coast feel to it. Like your render a bunch.

WOW! You just saw it now Rod?! I've seen it three times already - twice in 3D Imax. AWESOME movie as you say. Excellent image here. Yes, that character certainly DOES look exactly like Kate. Love the background you used here. Looks great! Too bad you could fine the filmy gown she had in the movie.
