Description
I can remember playing cowboys and injuns back when I was a kid... no one got hurt, no blood.. just stick guns and lots of hollering and running. Gunsmoke was on the tv and every week Matt Dillon would shot the same guy in the opening. The bad guy would fall dead in the dirt street, no blood, no gaping hole torn in his chest, just pretend stuff. I don't yearn for the "good ol days" as they weren't any better than today, just different. No, what i feel isn't a loss of anything for myself, rather it's a sense of pity for the kids growing up today where life is cheap and thrills are hard to come by. Kids today are weaned on blood, guts, sex and the real violence going on in front of them daily. We were always a violent species, but there was a time for a short while when we were a gentler race. Now we train our young to be numb to empathy or compassion, to kill with the touch of a button and feel nothing as they see the bad guy fall dead in the street... I pity this world.

Interesting social commentary, Though I do wonder if this is often thought from one generation to the next.

A powerful image, Seth, and it has obviously struck a nerve - as great art does when it makes a statement. Not in much of a mood for adding a lot to the discussion (sad news - again..), and there's not much I can add that hasn't been said already... Most excellent work, my friend!

I don't know...if the gods keep throwing rocks at us like they did the other day, we'll probably have to start the entire fustercluck all over again. ;)

I understand what you say here, and you are right. the children of today are growing up in a whole different world than we did. good work, here and good commentary.

Your picture makes me sad. It is really very good, but the image informative is sad. Children need security more than ever. Parents have a duty!!

Well spoken Seth, and well illustrated too. Yes, the world has changed and is still changing. I find myself wondering no longer if mankind will survive but rather for how long it will still take them to anihilate themselves - the crown of creation indeed!

You have perfectly right, perfect image and words!

Nintendo warfare takes all the gore out of it unless you happen to be unlucky enough to be where the Powers have decreed someone must die...... Then it becomes all too real. Nicely pointed, Seth.

Powerful image and excellent work. Spectacular light and color. A friend of mine, likens are current society to the end of the Roman Empire. I guess that makes DC Rome, but I don't know who the barbarians are. Maybe ourselves. Empires and cultures rise and fall and until we have infinite resources and greater tolerance to all genders, races, religions and non-humans, we will continue to struggle for better or worse. Many look at their own time and think that it is the worst in history or close to it. History tells me there is bad and good every step of the way. The difference now is that most everyone can see what's going on everywhere else in the world (except North Korea) and in the long run that is a good thing. Understanding and knowledge of other cultures, better and worse, educates. The world still has a long way to go before everyone sees women and men for who they are, different yet equal, and respects others beliefs without hate and takes better care of the planet and it's resources. Not just resources for humans, but keeping it liveable for all its native creatures. I am realistic of what goes on in the world and often find myself frustrated and shaking my head in disbelief at the petty squables of politicians, but I am also an optimist. Hope springs life eternal. Hope keeps me uplifted and able to see the things in life that are good and I believe that positive thoughts breed positive actions. I can't be polyanna all the time, but I do what I can. Be well.

Are general meanings just actual meanings, and not "global" or "universal" meanings ? When I ask myself about subject like these : present, past and future, I use to stand back...and I try to compare what is violence now and when I try to imagine the one from the past, then I see Gengis Khan coming thru my living room, cutting heads to all the people who are inside (mother, brother, wife, children without any consideration) just to have some square meters more for his Empire. Then Napoleon, Cesar, Hitler, Alexander "The Great" <- (just imagine...THE GREAT)and also Attila, "The Scourge of God" ask me for a barbecue...for the next time they will come back. Then at the time we book our seats boOOOooomM ! Hiroshima, Nagazaki and suddenly...the calm. The peace. Yes, Peace (only if you've got atomic bomb to dissuade. What could I say ? From my country, and for the last 60 years there was no war. Then I can say to all the childs around : this is the more peaceful time ever ! The less violent time in fact. Isn't it ? Most of death at the moment comes from some alcohol and are found on world country roads. Then comes the one from the cigarette and then AIDS/Drugs. Wich basicaly means "pleasure", not violence, isn't it ? And during that time, the Nature in all their reigns continue to fight for the survival and its balance : without any pity, with no compassion, forgetting what could be good or bad : just for its harmony. So I think that if human being could be the best perfect (naughty) idiot sometimes, it has something more than the nature don't have : compassion, love raised to his consciousness wich isn't only instinct, and a sense (wich is or not appropriate) to what could be good or bad. As a joke, if I meet a man on his territory wich is Leo as zodiacal sign, I could compose...but if I meet a lion on its territory it would be more complicated even if it was born under Virgo sign... :-) Also, we can say what we want : we must admitt that it's always the elder that push children and teenagers to be involved into violence and into war... The question is : are we the "elder" ? We want you ! ;-):-) See you soon Seth ! Take care my friend...
