Just an older individual spending his day's wandering around trying to learn how to capture better images than i am used to-Just learning for the past few month's and still realising all the beauty that i like other's always took for granted was alway's standing right in front of me-Although late in year's now.I wish i had come across Photography long long ago rather than stumble upon it as a past time.I do not believe in false comment's since this only deludes the individual. Nor do i believe that i should comment out of kindness.Being honest is important since we learn from our mistakes which i am doing every day. Many people here make their living from their work and need your honesty to continue doing so,If you do not want to comment honestly in-case your upset someone? Then elect not to comment.SIMPLES

Thank you for these useful tips on watermarks ! This being said, this is a most gorgeous scenery and capture !

the landscape is outstanding. if someone wants to steal one's work they will.if one is worried about their work being stolen then it would be prudent not to share, but I myself will continue to share and I place an imbedded watermark on some of my images
blinkings
Using this image as an example, the problem is that the mountain...or girl or whatever...is the main focus of the photo. Even if you can't be bothered removing the watermark, a simple crop would not ruin the image but in fact would highlight the mountain!! I doubt that anyone would want to steal this photo simply because they love the green foreground. IMHO posting small files is about the best way to deter sticky fingers on a commercial scale. And if you are a person that does not mind their image being used etc, then watermarks are still bloody annoying to the viewer. Aside from my regular job, I also work for bands and large venues shooting covers, live shows etc. I NEVER get to share these online because they simply CAN'T be protected. And even if you take the thieves to court, often they are large companies who have far more money to spend on lawyers than we do..... or at least than I do! Nice shot BTW mate. Andrew

Thank you for everyone's input regarding watermark. God Bless.

The picture is very beautiful.

I agree with Andrew (blinkings) and I would add that this photo lends itself to a watermark more easily than most of mine do, and I think most photos cannot have a watermark without really destroying the essence of the photo. I also limit the size most often to 1000 pixels on the long side, and saved to a size under 500 kB pretty much renders the image useless for anything other than internet copying, so why bother? What are thieves really going to do with it? They are not going to make money.

I had the same thoughts as Andrew about cropping out the water marks before reading his comments. Watermarks can be moved or adjusted so where it would be difficult to clone it out. But nothing is full proof from theft. Your capture is beautiful and cropping it wont hurt it at all. Here are some tips for "Image Protection" on the internet. Aloha

Apparently, R'osity knows if members are copying images that they have not posted and will ban people for doing so - not an experiment worth trying to see if it is true though! Excellent capture Pete!

If this is the landscape around you (where you live) Pete, then it is very beautiful, as the photo is showing this in a great way. I love that white houses and the big mountains. Talking for myself, I'm not such interesting about a watermark, if someone want to 'steal' my image, so what? LOL. They (I think) always find a way to do this anyway, I guess.

I have to agree with Blinkings too to me watermarks are annoying and destroy the image, why be so hung up on all that and just share your work for others to enjoy or as he said post in in a smaller format.
