Description
So said Crazy Horse. Born circa 1842 at Rapid Creek in the Black Hills of South Dakota, while at Fort Robinson, Nebraska, under a flag of truce, he was stabbed in the back by an American soldier and died Sept. 6th, 1877
He once said: "As long as rivers run and grass grows and trees bear leaves, Papa Sapa (the Black Hills of Dakota) will forever be the sacred land of the Sioux Indians".
Here you see in the foreground a marble sculpture of Crazy Horse and in the background the progress being made to carve out the mountain which started in 1948 with the first blast. Chief Standing Bear asked sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to carry out the work at a meeting in 1947. Since his death in 1982, his wife Ruth working in concert with the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation Board of Directors, has directed the work which continues to make exciting progress every year. this pic was taken in May 2011.

Brilliant title. Interesting data making me want to know more. Great angle for the image whereby it allows you to view and imagine which part of the mountain will be carved in relation to the statue.

One of the worst acts of treachery, ever.. We like that! We'll take it! And we'll kill anyone who's in the way! No wonder its still not talked about much in the US... Hang your heads...I'm afraid.. Great shot Jeff. Rob
