Description

I am not a fan of killing and stuffing wild animals. A visit to the Kittery Trading Post, Kittery, Maine and the stuffed black bear in the lobby. The American black bear (Ursus americanus) is a medium-sized bear native to North America and is the world's most common bear species. It is the continent's smallest and most widely distributed bear species. They are omnivores (they will eat anything) with their diets varying greatly depending on season and location. They typically live in largely forested areas, but do leave forests in search of food. Adult males typically weigh between 130 to 550 pounds (57 to 250 kg), while females weigh 90 to 370 pounds (41 to 170 kg). Photo taken in September 2012. My hand is more flexible today - thank you for your best wishes. Zoom works. I feel claustrophobic commenting in this tiny box, I hope that is one of the things that has not been fixed yet. Could not get on most of the day. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

They make me sad too; I have an uncle with a houseful of all kinds of stuffed kills. He has grizzly bears, cougars, birds, bobcats, deer, moose--pretty much anything you can hunt in this country is stuffed and displayed in his winter home in Northern Idaho. There has been an increase in these black bears moving into our settled areas, which really means that we've built too much into their habitats! Beautiful capture!

I am the same way, I do not care for animals killed for sport. back when I was working people asked me to hang many animal trophies. I needed the money so I did it. one family was so proud because the son had went to Africa with the father for the express purpose of killing animals to have new trophies some local sporting good stores has so many animals on display

The thing that annoys me most about this new layout is the distracting white bar at the top of the page. I wish they would remove it.

If he were alive and you were this close you'd be in trouble, LOL! I'm unhappy with the site changes too and you might want to add to my complaints where they will be seen. Check it out [HERE].

Disgraceful to end a beautiful creatures life just to have it stuffed or mounted for display. The Trading Post would be a very depressing place to work for me...to see this every day.

Oh, I LOVE the Kittery Trading Post! That is where I bought my recurve bow for target shooting in the backyard. Yes, I am an animal lover and hate animals being killed just as trophies. If you are going to eat the meat, then I don't have a problem, but not just for a trophy!

I bet you were glad it was not alive it looks like it could have been a bit dodgy . I agree about the comment box I did send a email about it , Its a real pain having to pull the box out every time you want to comment.

Nice work Dana, and I agree with you I don't care for the changes, seems to happen with most sites like this though. Leave well enough alone or ask the members here for input to as to do they want change we are the ones that keep this site up and going.
