Description

Avalon is the only incorporated town on Santa Catalina Island just off the coast of LA. There are less than 4,000 residents and basically no more than a few hundred cars at most. People get around in golf carts. This is the main tourist destination, people arrive here either by ferry or by sailboat. A lovely little town with palm tree lined streets nestled in the hills around Avalon Bay. I didn't get to spend much time here as I was at a research station outside of town and it was a long hike in. We could only use vehicles for work and buying food. That was a pain for sure. But we brought in a lot of beer to get us through! Next I will show you what most of the island really looks like. Not the touristy place most visitors think!

A definite Mediterranean vibe here with those white houses nestled in the hills, the sailboats & the deep blue color of the water - I would have guessed Italy. I like that one puffy cloud behind the antenna too. Very nice shot that could easily pass for a postcard...

LOL! or LOB! (lots of beer!) Priorities. Looks and sounds like a pretty cool place. Maybe to visit, but not to live. Appropriately named and I love the buildings nestled into the hill. I'll bet they have an awesome view. Great shot and thanks for sharing.

Postcard shot there :-) You sure surprised me though. When I read the title I was expecting some image of the Tor in England - which this year has almost been surrounded again by a lake, because of the floods. Or a magicky piece of 3D. DidnĀ“t even know there was a town/island called Avalon in the States as well.

I'm in 5 weeks in LA. But I probably will not have the time to make stop there. Or is it? Show me the other pictures! I can smell the sun, the maritime village, the salt on my skin ..... > Have you explored how much beer purely fits in you? LOL < CHEERS
