In case you wondered «what ever happened to old Joe?» rest assured: I'm still alive and kicking! During all this time I made many comparisons between the plant editors of Vue, Carrara and Bryce, concluding that at present Carrara's is by far the best (although E-on – Vue's sofware house – announced by a «coming soon» notice a new plant editor – the Plant Factory – which in their opinion will be «the best 3D plant technology on Earth» and (let's hope) in the whole Universe! So let's wait and see. The problem with Carrara is that if you put together some detailed elements, such as trees, bushes, lawns, the app becomes rather slow, and hard to control, at least for my iMac which is now almost four years old, though well-fed with ram. So, I'm not able to do more complex scenes that this one: if you have a look at full size, you can appreciate the details of the specimens, however I have to find a better way to make, for instance, hedges that don't need so many polygons (and I have some idea). In the same time I'm learning Vue, by which you can possibly create the best landscapes and atmospheres. But don't be misled: Vue's trees are beautiful only from afar (such as those of Bryce), unless they are imported (and heavy) objects, created with other programs. That's all.
