Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

I'll bet these guys go back to prehistoric ancestors! Great capture! Love the almost metalic sheen color - they almost appear as nanobytes gone si-fi...

I was fascinated by these little creatures as a kid. We called them pill bugs because of their habit of rolling into a little ball when disturbed. Never felt the urge to take any of these "pills", but I had a friend who thought it was a cool thing to do! Great shot; the light is perfect, revealing wonderful color and detail.

Amazing discovery and very well shot. The only 'bug' I was fond of as a child. They remind me of Trilobites. Chip is going to love this.

Armour protected...no wonder they have survived so long. Cool and shiny.

Wonderful sheen on their shells! I once said to a garden centre owner you must me making millions. He said " Only if I want to buy woodlice for a pound each!"

I once greeted my Daughter Lyndsey at the door from a days playing out. You know, back when kids played out? She came to me with a pocketful of these all rolled up in little balls, she was fascinated with them.

Great shot, one has to tap them just to watch them roll up.

Such a beautiful hematite shine! So nice to see a bunch of them all together. I'll be 90 years old and see a woodlouse and think of Chip. It's a permanent synaptic connection. :)
