Description
This we taken in Virginia and along the Blue Ridge Parkway a beautiful area that I hope to get back to soon. I hope all is well with everyone. :)
Mabry Mill is a watermill located at milepost 176.2 of Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County, Virginia. It is a tourist attraction mainly for the picturesque views of the mill itself. A short trail around the mill connects historical exhibits about life in rural Virginia. The trail allows visitors to view the gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop.
Mabry Mill was built by Edwin Boston Mabry. The mill was constructed in 1903. It was first a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, then became a sawmill. By 1905 it was in operation as a gristmill.

The use of soft lighting and bright color doesn't get any better than this. You have played the two oppositional and strong elements off of each other to produce a dramatic effect. I also love the use of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines which due to their color contrasts show up so strongly to center and ground the building into the scene. This is a masterful shot that I am sure people would pay for as a fine art print. To me this just sings old American southeast.

I've noticed a tendency in your gallery, recently, to post smaller images at times. I'm sure you have your reasons, and of course taking very large images and reducing them for RR's specs can be frustrating. But I would love to see some of these larger. This feels like a photo you've postworked into a keepsake, an old postcard, or a painting to be kept in a box of private special things. The photo is packed with mill, trees, those beautiful red blossoms, the clear dark waters...but you've then treated them to feel like a personal reflection. I think you did beautifully with your postwork; and the photo itself is another of your sensitive captures of mills and old buildings---here surrounded by beautiful fall foliage. (I assume it's fall.) A gentle beautiful image, both as camera image and in postwork.
