Description

The Berlin Wall - a symbol of German history - known worldwide as the "Iron Curtain" during the Cold War between Eastern and Western Europe. Germany was divided, Berlin was the Divided City. After the reunification is the Berlin Wall the East Side Gallery has become. The East Side Gallery is a section of the wall near the Oberbaumbrücke that was painted after the fall of nearly 120 artists to 1.3 kilometers in length. She is regarded as the longest open-air gallery of the world and .... is MONUMENTAL! This part - the former death strip - is to real estate sharks been sold for 7 million (!!). What a shame! Here soon to luxury apartments, a hotel and a bridge will be built Spree! And partially dismantled of the wall is to be built at another location. The people had info only last week about the plans. On Friday, 1 March, the first wall portion has been removed. Protesters forced a stop construction until the weekend. Sunday was a big demonstration on the Wall. In this demonstration was attended by around 6,000 people and expressed what they think of the plans. The history must be preserved in original locations and protected! I was also on this demo because I also offer this money bags forehead. I am against this falsification of history, have signed the petition and I go to the vigil until those plans are off the table. The demonstration has now a construction freeze until 18 March obtained. And it will look for other alternatives. Based on the statement of Walter Ulbricht "No one has the intention of building a wall" (1961) it is now called: "No one has the intend to build luxury apartments" (german people, 2013) Here is a link to the latest happenings around the Berlin Wall. http://www.change.org/de/Petitionen/herr-wowereit-east-side-gallery-retten-keine-luxuswohnbebauung-auf-dem-ehemaligen-todesstreifen

Rendero is not a political platform .... but as you know, I love my city, so I had to write about it and document it. The Wall must remain as a memorial ...

Und die Berichterstattung in unseren Medien war wieder "überwältigend". Schlimm und sch... Deiner Aussage kann ich nur zustimmen. Wer die Zeit erlebt hat, kennt die Hintergründe. Danke für die Collage.

Politics or not! you are right to bring this to the attention of the world! What heartless and thoughtless idiots were they who thought they could just tear down a piece of history just to build some condos?

Ah, but my dear Sonja, you forget the motto of the corporate bosses that run our world, "Anything for money." Besides, what better irony and proof of how the world is now than to build luxury homes for the wealthy on the same ground where so many died trying to escape to freedom. Do you think Auschwitz is available?

Very interesting work, strange how developers never seem to respect peoples feeling until they chain themselves to bull dozers.

Good on you and the people of Berlin and Germany for standing up and protesting this loss of history. No matter how ugly the walls history, it is wrong to destroy human history so that fat cat capatalists can make a nice profit. In North America we are such dodos it is unlikely we would mount such a protest.

You have made an excellent collage! But it is the eternal conflict between the past and renewal. If every site of heartbreak, death and destruction were to be kept there would be few places in the country left to build on. I think there are enough reminders of the aftermath of WWII and the Cold War already. It is obvious that few politicians learn from the past anyway. My view is to allow development that may create hope and brightness for the future rather than maintain a reminder of a depressing past. That's my view anyway, speaking as an outsider to your city.

I heard about that in France. I habe die Mauer in 1986 gesehen und (brrrrr), dann in 1991 oder später was von ihr bleibt. Mann soll sie mit der Gemälden halten. Das ist Geschichte. Sorry for my german!
