Description

This Saluenensis camelia, also rather confusingly known as Apple-Blossom, is very fragrant and luckily for me can be grown outside where I live in the South of England. See a backlit pic of this pretty bloom Here

A very simply structured bloom that has it's own appeal. Maybe we are just rubbish at pronouncing Japanese names. So they gave us easy "apple blossom" to sell more, and save our embarrassment.

I like the RR version with its pretty stigma and goud of stamens BUT the profile/backlit photo on FlickR has more power to it!

A lovely image. I agree with Dana, the Flicker image has a lot of power behind it. This is one flower I am familiar with having seen it in several Japanese movies where it was growing in the snow. It usually involved the female lead holding a flower in her hand just before something tragic was about to occur. And then, as the scene ended, the flower would fall from her fingers into the snow showing the viewer the transitory nature of life. The Japanese have always been big on symbolism.
