you gave us a hint with the wheel well, my guess is that it is in a large bomber B-52?

Your hint would suggest maybe the controls for the landing gears on a plane . So that is my guess. Cool shot Richard, and a neat puzzle.

Construction technology of this airplane seems old enough to think that I is a plane 50s. Thermal protection suposer let it flew at high altitude. Finally, the size of the wheel makes me think of a bomber. I agree with Faemike55 for a bomber of World War II B52 probably.

A bit too modern for me.. but a guess based on the side framing, B-52!

100% guess - B-17 Maybe similar to Enola Gay! Darn I don't Know!

I don't recognize it by sight, but the color suggests an old U.S. military plane.

I pegged it as a wheel well but I haven't seen many and a B-737 is much more crammed so I would guess something large like a C5A Galaxy!

Very interesting capture here I honestly wish you had not said what it was. Then would have just been a wonderful abstract; but then flying machines are an abstractions unto themselves anyway :) Love this one. Sorry bout lack of comments I will make it up soon
