Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

We went to a show in 2009 and learned so very much about this type of dance. :)))) Each movement means something different. :)))) They invited the audience to come up and dance with them, but no one would go with me. :( I really missed a chance. :( Most excellent capture my friend. :)))) Thank you for sharing all of the beauty you see. :)))) Carry A Warm Smile In Your Heart :)))))

I have seen and studied a bit of the history of this dance and it is a wonderful thing that people such as these continue the traditions. For a long while I nourished the hope that Hawaiians would take back their islands, but I have lost hope of that happening now. So I do hope the many traditions are maintained. Oh, I also like your photo Errol!

@Ilona...The type of Hula dance that they were performing is called Hula Kahiko or an Ancient form of Hula. It is a most sacred dance in Hawaiian history. You will usually see no smiles in the Kahiko dance. It is done with chants and no musical instruments such as guitars and ukulele. They will normally chant with the Ipu (gourd), drums, stones, stick or shells. The Auana dance is todays modern dance and you will see smiles and expressions and they do use musical instruments. Hope I answered it correctly. Thanks for bringing it up. Aloha
