Description

This is a small village nestling in a sun filled valley near my home town of Chard in Somerset UK. To our American friends, who might think the larger building to be a castle, it is in fact the parish church. I have assisted the local undertaker to bury several people in that graveyard in my retirement job as a pall bearer This is a local haunt of our friend Alan (alanwilliams). Please zoom.

Classic English countryside from an appealing point of view, which I assume is a nearby hilltop...

good to know what the building is for. hope you two artists get together at times and talk of art like the artists in all these big art movement I read about. cool shot. And yes retirement people do need the money they earn on the side.

This American had the very good fortune to live in your beautiful country for 6 years. During my first stay there, a friend and I took off down the back roads of East Anglia. Each time we saw the tower of a parish church we would go find it. At that time, (1980) most of the churches were unlocked. If not there was a note saying where the rectory was to get the key. A lot of the parish churches in the Fens have marvelous wood carvings inside. The outside of the church could look relatively modest and when we walked in there would be such a rich display of carved wood. I love carved wood and I was in heaven (fairly appropriate, I guess). I loved the carved figures at the end of the pews in one church, polished smooth by centuries of human touch. My friend had to drag me away to continue our exploration. We left our offering in the box and continued on. It was a truly blessed day. This is a gorgeous place and capture! Such a beautiful setting and lovely church. Wonderful detail and light. I love the detail of the headstones; some crosses, and some thin and tilted with age. I'd love to walk among the headstones and read those whose writing is still visible. Your beautiful image touches my memories and I am almost there. Excellent capture!

Oh I wish I could have visited this place when I was in the UK. It is beautiful! You have a very beautiful array of Cathedrals and Church, as well as old architecture I loved viewing.
