Description

This is the mining shaft miners traveled down to access the tunnels to dig out the copper veins. There is a glass platform that covers the shaft, lit by the light aimed straight down. It is 1.900 feet down! You could bury the Empire state building inside this shaft. I'm not afraid of heights, but peering down this dark hole was another matter. It's mind-boggling men would travel down this shaft to work everyday. It must have been hell to work down there. There is no active mining anymore in Jerome, but the tunnels down there stretch for miles. The mountain underneath Jerome is literally like Swiss cheese. All the copper veins have been tapped.

Well choosen title for a spectacular image. I really like the sense of forboding and danger waiting just out of slight. Very well done!
