Description

We had a long morning trying to find the elusive Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. Once again unsuccessful, this is a bird I have never seen. The consolation prize was this bird the Greater Spotted Woodpecker (much more common) drumming. This is how they proclaim their territory, hammering out a rhythm on trees. This was a paused moment in his routine. You cannot bang your head against a wall all day!
