The fact that I pick one piece and not another, in a series, isn't because one is better than the other: It's because I can only do a representative sampling in one sitting. So I don't choose this because it's the "best" of the lot---they're all equally beautiful. But because it's another opportunity to talk about this series. This has less of the fine-line detail than the last one I commented on, but it's just as detailed. You're using a lot of play in combining plants with human (leprechaun) and rainbow, etc. And on that rainbow: As in the waterfall of the last one, the rainbow gives a "support" to the bouquet. And of course you have lots of clovers, a butterfly, fairy dust, lots of green, etc. (The latter, for St. Patrick's Day.) And we can see a top-hat here---the high portion being made of a rainbow, leprechaun, clover, fairy dust, etc. Boy you do this well. Your background in this case is like a designed paper, wallpaper, endpaper, etc: It's actually very silky; it undulates. The cat almost appears as part of a 'studio' photo, with a silken backdrop and beautiful hat. ALso, the cat has a very soft coat; and I noticed you gave it eyebrows of glitter, gold dust, whatever! Another really sweet touch. Finally, the feathers on the left of the hat are a balance, like the feathers on hats of the Renaissance, 1700s, etc. (The original "panache".) I can see your fashion display background, because those feathers are good fashion design. And the cat, in all this? He looks delighted but also a bit bemused, like he accepts the big to-do here, but is also that innocent kid. Beautiful, playful, and opulent. Ok: I think this is as good a place as any to give links. As you probably studied on your journey, Rembrandt did portraits of both his wives: His second wife, Hendrikje, was late in his life, and so was the subject of very introspective, inner-glowing portraits. But his first (Saskia) was earlier, when he was still experimenting with theatrical costume, ceremony, etc. He did some paintings of her decked out in elaborate costume, where she has that accepting-but-bemused look; and even when she doesn't have that look, there's something so subtly endearing about her in all that garb---looking like an innocent lover who's doing all this for 'him'---that one loves her just for that. And there are hats in some of these--which made the connection complete. These are only 3 examples, and they're not great jpgs, but they'll make the point. Both his and your portraits are opulent and touching, and both have subjects who are accepting but innocent. One thing that made his portraits poignant was that Saskia died young, after which Rembrandt went more inward---much to our gain, even while it was to his great loss; as those last paintings are simply among the most touching and inward works we have. But here's the comparison...enjoy! (Not bad being compared with Rembrandt...) They're here, here, and here. (The links should send you to a new page. I hope you don't wind up someplace in Moscow...)
