Description

I have no idea why this lake is white.certainly not ice, not saying that it could not be in W. Texas as it gets very cold there I watched a while and it did not vary. so it was not reflections from the clouds

It could be caliche, which is a kind of common occurrence in west TX. That is, that's the bottom of the lake. Caliche is calcium carbonated soil/rock and it's whitish like that. Looks kind of cool though :)

Salt or calcium probably. If this is the same lake the Texas Historical Association had this to say about it: according to Google: WHITE LAKE. White Lake, six miles southwest of Needmore in southeastern Bailey County (centered at 33°57' N, 102°46' W), is one of three lakes in the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge. The natural sink type lake is at an elevation of 3,710 feet above sea level and is divided by a causeway into Upper and Lower White Lake. The terrain surrounding the lake is flat to gently sloping surfaced by loose sand that supports scrub brush and grasses. The area is frequented by migrating waterfowl, including the Sandhill Crane. There is easy access to campground facilities and the wildlife refuge headquarters for visitors.
