Description

The second of my Rocky Mountain ghost town images. For Vyktohria because she says she likes to shoot these kinda images herself. I was on a Photographing Winter Landscapes retreat. I was determined to get as many shots as possible not taken at eye level - to show this place from a perspective that few walk around visitors would take the time to see. The advantage of being on a photo workshop is that everybody was working at the patient photographer's pace; no one was saying "Hurry up already!" or "Are you done yet?" or "Come on! Everybody's waiting!" It was different. It was also a bit intimidating because at first you were wondering what everybody else was shooting too, and if you were gonna miss something that those with an eye had caught and you had walked by. It took a measure of confidence just to shut everyone else out and find your own place in space to shoot. I think this was the towns bank, it was made of brick and stone rather than woodwork. Beaten and chipped up, but otherwise it was withstanding the wear of high country time fairly well. Still standing, on its own accord, after nearly a century of neglect. Like your worn out old dog you had to leave behind when you left home, but still waiting for you to come back and love him again.

I''m tellin' ya...I freakin' LOVE these shots! There's something truly beautiful in the aged history of a place...what it's seen, what it's been through...Absolutely GORGEOUS!

Very nice POV and cropping - the building draws you in and the clouds echo the snow pattern brings your eye back around for a second look at the great detail in the foreground. Really like this capture !!!

A simply gorgeous shot, Roxy - wonderful angle, and such a delightful subject! I love these old dilapidated buildings, myself. You know - it's funny... Back in the days when I was Chairman of a local photo club, we would take a Saturday sometimes, and select a certain area - usually within a one-block area. We'd stay within those borders for maybe 2 hours or so - everyone shot one roll of film (remember film?), then go get it processed, and meet later at a coffee shop to compare photos. It was facinating to see several photographers shoot the same subject, be it a building, fountain, or whatever... None of the photos were quite alike - everyone had thier own 'vision' of each subject. I really need to get off my butt this year, and do some shooting.... :-P

Just a brilliant capture here, Roxy. Great subject and beautiful lighting, and the black and white really emphasizes the starkness and "haunted" mood. Gorgeous photo.:)

Really great perspective Roxy! I think you're probably right about this being a bank - back when banks were and had to be rock-steady and rock-solid. (They're kinda slippery these days.) Fantastic textures in this and great in B&W!

When I photograph - what I seldom do - I love to play with perspectives, so this is a very inspiring work for me.Great textures and use of light in b/w.

I have a camera now, I really should get it out and use it now. There is such character to this building and I like the angle you chose to show the lean of the wall from time and the weathering of the brick. It must have been something to get the brick that far to build with. Absolutely fascinating!

Awesome B&W photo. The texture is wonderful and the POV very engaging. Sort of a squirrels eye view. I love B&W photos that someone has spent the time exploring. Excellent work.

I'd say that this rocks, but that would be inaccurate, since it's a rather stable image. Eh, you know what I mean though. I love the details in this and the black and white makes it pop in an altogether different sort of emotional way. I love color photography, but monochromatic stuff has such a rich, and surprising emotional range. This is the prefect example of that and I love the details of the plant growth and the stone and the snow with what look to be melted footprints in it. I love the mood of this shot!
