I like how you used this tree to frame the composition. The way you used your 17 mm to shoot so close to it gives a powerful perspective and plays with our perception of depth. The muted colors allow little distraction from the structure of the composition which takes center stage here. I bet it would work in gray scale too. Oh, and smashing texture on the tree bark too.
