Description

Martian Dusk An Orion’s Arm future history image. While at work on construction of the Mars Settlement aerial view – now at render No. 23 – and what is literally a skyscraper sized stack of layers – it occurred to me I have not posted a render depicting the Mars Settler’s Transport/Landers, nor any render of the Cargo Carrier Landers prior to unloading – so I took time out to compose this image. Mars Settler Transport/Landers and Cargo Landers on arrival. Foreground Right is a Settler Transport, another can be seen middle foreground left – beyond these are unmanned Cargo Landers. Both vehicle types are of similar scale, with a main hull diameter of 185 feet, just short of 200 feet high with gears-extended. Landing site is a (relatively) flat plane bounded by the chaos terrains and eroded lava flows of Syria Planum in the Tharsis region of Mars. This sequence of images depict events around the Year Zero mark on my future history timeline – see link below. Future History Timeline Context Link: Orion’s Arm Future History Timeline. Related Images: Aero Braking Orion Lander Separation Terminus of an Arc Orion Launch Vehicle Final Assembly Right Before Mars Settlement Project Orion Launch Syria Planum Landing Image Composition Note: Sky is custom, designed to match against true color images from the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity. Terrains are Tectonics Evolved Desolace, Searing Mesa, and Arathi Peaks distressed in Terrain Editor. Terrain textures are a combination of David Brinnen’s “Desert” texture and the stock Desolace texture. Mars ground texture created in Photoshop and applied to the Bryce ground-plane with additional layers added in post-work. Texture sources are cropped and blended from Spirit and Opportunity rover images courtesy NASA/JPL. Texture image source credit: NASA/JPL. All models are my own Bryce creations constructed in Bryce 6.3 and rendered in Bryce 7 Pro. As always thank you for your interest, thoughtful comments, and encouragement.
