Description
I believe it could be a member of the Dyserdycus genus in the Pyrrhocoridae family, which makes it a "true bug" If anybody knows for sure, please comment so I can rename the image correctly.
It's very common and was found in Jumping Creek Reserve, which is east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

It's not something I'm familiar with, but I'm pretty sure that it's not a beetle, its a true "bug" judging by its shape and mouth-parts, probably a distant relative to the Firebug, Shield bugs, and box elder bugs, etc...and whatever it is, I like it and you've captured it superbly! What a handsome little critter!

Thanks for the comments. "Chipka" suggested it was a "True Bug" instead of a Beetle. More research has me now believing the insect is a "Red Cotten Bug". Happy Easter to everybody.
