Description

I ran across a copy of one of my favorite books from my childhood, The Race Forever, a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) story, and decided for no reason whatsoever to recreate the cover art. I don't even recall the specific story (or all the possible endings), but remember as a young boy I loved the crap out of illustrator Ralph Reese's cover illustration - a fearless rally driver standing with his Lancia Stratos HF and staring down the race course montaged with an aerial view of zebras looking on as a couple of Land Rovers and FJ40's tear up the track below. The Race Forever was re-released in 2005 as 'Race Forever' with an updated cover illustration, though admittedly not nearly as cool as the original and while my stab at recreating the vibe of the original kind of merges the original montage into a single panel, I may take a shot at creating the second panel just for kicks and dropping them into the cover layout. The Lancia is a low-poly model from Google 3D Warehouse which was rendered in solid colors and then textured and decaled in post. Obviously I leaned heavily on the classic Alitalia livery, but kind of did my own version since I always thought they could have done it better ;) Thanks for looking!
