Description

Thought I give shooting flowers close up again a try and see how my lens performed compared to a macro lens. It has been a very long time since I last photographed flowers back in the days of film, so I picked the Geraniums I planted in my garden to keep bugs away from my veggies as my test shots. Took more than what I first thought, but finally got one I am happy with that will help me decide if I want to buy a macro lens or not. What do you think?

Don't waste your money on a macro lens. This is nice and sharp with lots of details. DOF is good, color is good, contrast is good. If the result you've shown us is postworked (and I assume you've done SOMEthing to it!), who cares? You have the skill level to bring out the best in a photograph, so why buy another lens? Just my opinion ... since you asked! :)

Very nice capture. I don't think that you need a macro lens. What lens do you have currently? Maybe a lens that can be used for zoom and for macro shots could be an opinion (eg Tamron)?
