Description

Venice. The Frari’s Basilica. Sacristy. On the wall, near the entrance, there is an elegant tabernacle which contained the relic of the PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST. It was originally attributed to Pietro Lombardo, but more recently acknowledged as being a work of Bartolomeo Bellano (1501). The architectural structure and perspective around the tiny door along with the two statues on either side, representing St, Francis and St. John the Baptist, are simply outstanding. Up above on the entablature is the Dead Christ supported by two angels which resemble the Donatelloesque masterpiece found in the Basica of St. Anthony in Padue.
